Antique sideboard buffet makeover
It’s so hard to find a great buffet these days! Every time I come across one, I have to jump on it! This beautiful antique had been in the family for it’s whole life. The grand daughter had to sell it due to an upcoming move. I did feel a little bad to buying it just to paint it, but that’s the nature of the business. This piece could have ended up in the dump but I am happy to have been able to save it and bring it back to today’s style!
This solid wood buffet was in pretty good shape. A few dings that needed to be filled and the inside of the cabinets and doors need a little love, but over all, solid and sturdy!
Instead of sanding and refinishing the cabinets, I saved a TON of time by using this MAGIC little product. It seriously saves me so often. Choose the color that best matches the wood you are working with and apply with a cloth and viola! See for yourself.
I then cleaned up the outside by wiping down with TSP. Once dried, I started painting the body with Dixie Belle paint. I first painted it Haint Blue and let it dry. I then went over the blue with a watered down Dried sage and blended Fluff into it. Altogether, this gave the piece dimension and texture. I topped with Gray Best dang wax and softened it with White wax.
For the legs, I stripped them with (my all time favorite stripper) Citristrip. Once the old stain was removed, I let the wood dry out and lightly whitewash. with Fluff. I wiped it back as much as i could and sealed with white wax.
This piece is definitely different for me! I usually have clean, smooth finishes, but I enjoy challenging myself and going a little outside of my comfort zone! I love the romantic softness in the color, and the texture of the paint and the weathered look of the legs.
Let me know what you think if this piece! I welcome feedback. 🙂
