Farmhouse style Empire Chest of drawers

Supplies Used:

  1. Sherwin Williams Flat Paint in shade Privilege Green
  2. 220 Grit Sand Paper
  3. Bondo
  4. Zebra Paint Brush
  5. Minwax Polyacrylic

I LOVE an empire style chest of drawers. It’s so true to Farm House style and such a versatile piece. From the key holes to the swirl feet, I am smitten with this piece!

This piece was not in the best shape when I purchased in on an online auction. There were gouges in the wood that needed to be sanded and corners that needed to be rebuilt. For this, i used Bondo.

Check out the before!

I painted this dresser during my first Facebook live. For this piece, I Sherwin William’s, Privilege Green flat finish.  It is lightly distressed with 220 girt sand paper, and sealed with a coat of Minwax polyacrylic.

While painting this, I broke a very important rule and painted while it was raining. Even though I know better, I had a Facebook live scheduled and really wanted to go through with it. Luckily, I did not have to refinish this piece, the paint just took a lot longer than usual to cure. My advice, do not paint with latex paint in high humidity!

I felt inspired by the Farmhouse style to use Jute knobs on this dresser! I live on the coast in North Carolina and it also goes with the Beachy/ country theme perfectly.

I am really loving the Jute trend right now but everything seems to be so expensive or not readily available. I made my own jute knobs out of old, discarded wooden knobs from previous projects and twine! They were very easy to do and turned out great! Check out my full post on how to create your own knobs here!

Let me know what you think about these knobs!
